Below is a comprehensive guide to the upcoming benefits.
Canada Pension Plan:
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) retirement pension is a monthly, taxable benefit that replaces part of your income when you retire. If you qualify, you’ll receive the CPP retirement pension for the rest of your life.
Canada Child Benefit:
The Canada child benefit (CCB) is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It is a tax-free monthly payment made to eligible families to help with the cost of raising children under 18 years of age.
The CCB may include the child disability benefit and any related provincial and territorial programs.
Old Age Security:
The Old Age Security (OAS) pension is a monthly payment you can get if you are 65 and older.
GST/HST Credit:
The goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) credit is a tax-free quarterly payment intended to help individuals and families with low and modest incomes offset the GST or HST that they pay.
It may also include payments from provincial and territorial programs. You are automatically considered for the GST/HST credit when you file your taxes.
Canada Carbon Rates:
The Canada Carbon Rebate, Formerly known as the climate action incentive payment, is a basic amount and rural supplement for residents of Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan.
Ontario Trillium Benefits
The Ontario trillium benefit (OTB) is the combined payment of the Ontario energy and property tax credit, the Northern Ontario energy credit, and the Ontario sales tax credit. Your 2024 OTB payments, which are based on your 2023 income tax and benefit return.
The OTB program is legislated and funded by the province of Ontario. The CRA administers this program on behalf of the province.
Ontario Disability Support Program
The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) provides money to help you and your eligible family members with living expenses, including food, rent, health benefits, including prescription drugs and vision care and employment support to help you find and keep a job or advance your career.
If you are eligible for ODSP, the amount of money you get will depend on your specific situation. You could receive up to $1,368 a month for basic needs and shelter if you are single.
Payments are on the last business day of each month. December payments may be available earlier in the month.
Veteran Disability Program
A disability benefit through Veterans Affairs Canada is a tax-free, financial payment intended to support your well-being.
To qualify for a disability benefit you must be one of the following:
- Canadian Armed Forces member or Veteran,
- a current or former member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP),
- Second World War or Korean War Veteran (includes Merchant Navy), or
- certain civilians who served in the Second World War.
